I bought this for the hallway outside my bedroom after a few too many stubbed toes. It turns itself on as soon as the room goes dark and I never have to think about it. Soft enough that it doesn't wake me up.
The automatic sensor is the whole thing. I tried a plug-in one with a switch before and half the time I forgot to flip it. This just works every night without me doing anything.
I've tried battery nightlights that were far too bright and ones you had to switch on yourself. This one comes on by itself and gives just enough light to get down the stairs safely. I ordered two more for the guest rooms.
